Hawaii’s Pacific Aviation Museum
29 June 2010
If you are a fan of history, art and culture, plus planing to visit Hawaii, then you’re in luck! Honolulu is home to the Pacific Aviation Museum, located on Ford Island in the middle of Pearl Harbor . The Pacific Aviation Museum is on a secured military base in the recently renovated Hangar 37, a 42,000 square foot former seaplane hangar that wasn’t destroyed in the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
It is relatively small, for an aviation museum, but the collection of real World War II-era airplanes is outstanding; bringing history alive with the P-40 fighter, a Japanese Zero, a Grumman Wildcat, the SBD Dauntlees dive bomber – famous for its activity in the Battle of Midway, the airplane with which President George H. W. Bush first soloed – the Stearman N2S-3; and the B-25B Mitchell, which is similar to one used in the Doolittle Raid on Japan in April, 1942. In addition, you’ll get to see an authentic F4F Wildcat in the featured in Guadalcanal diorama, while the story of the ‘Cactus Air Force’ is narrated. As you enter the lobby, you’ll be guided to a 200-seat theater and shown a 12 minute movie that documents the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, including historic footage. After visiting the WWII exhibition area, you can test your skills at becoming a WWII pilot in the Aviation Museum’s interactive ‘Combat Flight Simulators’. You’ll be able to simulate flying a plane during take-off and land on an aircraft carrier; defend yourself during a dog-fight with enemy aircraft, a fly around the pacific on patrol.
Alongside the Aviation Museum, you’ll also get to tour the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the USS Bowfin submarine, all of which adds up to a solid day of enjoyment. You won’t have to worry about lunch, just grab a bite to eat at the Aviation Museum’s restaurant, the Laniakea Cafe. There’s also a great little Museum store stocked with everything to do with aviation and Pearl Harbor. If you’re staying at a beach hotel, Hawaii , you may find it hard to leave the beach side, but you’ll find that your experience at the Pacific Aviation Museum will be a most memorable moment as you take a journey back to where America was first attacked by a foreign country.
Dynamic Cultural Atmosphere of Austin
24 June 2010
Austin, Texas is more than just a state capital, well and when taken into consideration of the state in which it is the capital city this is no small affair, however and with that acknowledged, Austin is a lot more than a capital city. It is cool. That might sound simple, but when you really look at it, it is the best way to describe this medium sized, central Texas city. The city itself is beautiful and has a well planned, well maintained feel to it. This is perhaps due in part to the beautification efforts of Lady Bird Johnson, which the city continues to appreciate and support.
There are various dynamic and progressive cultural and educational establishments that contribute to a dynamic energy in the city. The University of Texas Austin offers more than class work and degrees and many of the school’s facilities are also popular cultural attractions. The university’s mission states that it is dedicated to improving lives and this is evidenced by the various on campus features that are open to the public. From the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center to the excellent performances of the theatre and dance department, the university is one of the city’s solid cultural attractions.
Tourists who visit the city frequently notice the dynamic atmosphere and overall feeling that something is going on and this extends to the great accommodations they receive at the luxury Austin hotels . They also notice the amount of live music venues that exist in the city, and this is a fundamental aspect of Austin culture. There are also some great museums in the city, and one at the university of course, that add to the cultural climate of the city. The Austin Museum of Art , Blanton Museum and the Austin Children Museum are all popular attractions for tourists and celebrated cultural establishments for the residents. After visiting Austin, you are likely to agree that one of the best ways to describe it is also one of the easiest. It’s cool.
Property Manager: The Rental Property Must Have
22 June 2010
Making the decision to invest in rental property is one that requires a lot of forethought and planning. It is important to understand ahead of time the risk and requirements involved. There can be the misconception that all that is required is rentable property and someone willing to rent it; however, there are many issues, legal and otherwise, to consider before someone can move in.
While it is important to have at least a general understanding of the legal and other requirements before becoming too deeply involved, many property owners hire a property manager to help keep everything organized and legal. Property managers can be hired from a large company, Transglobe Property management , or as an individual.
One of the main purposes of a property manager is to help make life easier for the owner. They handle a wide range of tasks from the first advertisements of the property to maintaining communication with the tenants. One of the biggest and most important tasks of the property manager is handling all of the legal issues. This is particularly important if the property owner doesn’t have much background or experience in the law. There are state and city codes that must be followed as well as landlord/ tenant laws. The property manager will make sure that the property meets all of the requirements and that the lease follows all the laws.
Along with maintaining many of the administrative tasks, many property managers have the added responsibility of maintaining the property and addressing any problems with the property or the tenants.
There are many aspects to successfully maintaining a rental property, especially for one person who may or may not have another job. A property manager such as TransGlobe property management services not only makes things easier for the owner but also helps to keep them out of unnecessary legal or financial trouble. It is important that the property owner understand the basics of the law and what it involved in renting out property but at the end of the day having a good property manager can save a lot of time, money, and energy, and make the rental experience much more enjoyable.
Boston Playwrights Theatre
20 June 2010
The richness and diversity in the theatre community in the Boston area can be seen in the past as much as in the present. While there may be enormous attraction to the city because of its history, it’s the creativity in the present that brings visitors. Any time of the year, travelers to the area can enjoy the gifts of the city with a stay in a Boston hotel , and the promise of seeing some delightful new work for the stage.
Boston Playwrights Theatre began in 1981, and has become something of a fixture in the local and international theatre scene. The focus is on student work, where the MFA students enrolled in the English Department at Boston University have the opportunity to see their words come to life off the page. The purpose of the theatre, however, is to produce work from multiple arenas, with performances of plays by authors as distinguished as the late Howard Zinn, and there are also productions from other companies using the space as their temporary venue.
A temporary home is all that a theatre can ever offer a playwright, whose work and life are always itinerant, and always wandering. It’s the wandering, however, that offers the most hope for the journey. The theater’s founder, Derek Walcott , has been wandering for a lifetime, tracking the reach and direction of his dreams on the page for the stage, as well as in poetry and visual art.
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1992, one of his most famous works is en epic poem, Omeros, which is a re-telling of Homer through his Caribbean lens. Wandering and homelessness are the major themes of the poem, as it is in Homer, and it is through the wandering that new identities get forged, ones that can point new directions for humanity in new times and in new geographies. It is the strength and openness of his vision that has made a home for so many playwrights here, who track their own histories to create stories told in time, reflecting a Boston that is connected to multiple pasts and presents.
Salt of the Earth in Hawaii
17 June 2010
There are plenty of gifts that will delight the senses in Hawaii. The islands have served as a generous home to people for generations, and have also become one of the most attractive paradises on the planet recently. The contemporary delights are found in the tours, the excellent attractions, and the five star Hawaiian hotels that speak directly to the part of the spirit that knows how to receive.
One of the things that makes it so extravagantly welcoming, however, is related to the most elemental aspects of any place. The thing about Hawaii that is very old is also the thing that keeps renewing itself, in a delicate balance that depends on the care and the respect of the people who set foot here. Elemental is the most appropriate word for the place, in fact, because it is in the elements that all the deeper mysteries are found.
Perhaps out of all the wonderful souvenirs that one can take from the place, salt is the most simple, but it is also the most powerful. Salt, of course, is very old, and is found all over the world in every culture. In Hawaii, where everything has its own power and magic, salt, likewise, is a local idea. Here, it’s called alae , or Hawaiian red salt, or sometimes just salt. The term alae refers more to the earth the is mixed with the salt, and is that which gives it its red color. It’s said to give it the special, subtle flavors, as well as to provide some essential, and even elemental, nutrients.
Salt is an important element historically and mythologically, being one of the main ingredients in alchemy. In Hawaii, salt stories relate tales of goddesses and gods speaking, offering mortals some of the secrets to preservation, and means of making the flavors sing. Preservation is linked to immortality, and here, the correspondence is not accidental at all.

Honolulu Theatre for Youth
07 June 2010
Honolulu boasts some of the most extraordinary views that are offered on the earth. Anywhere that the land meets the ocean has a kind of special magnetism, and here, the land is almost as luscious and breathtaking as the ocean itself. Visitors are drawn by the thousands to enjoy all that Hawai’i has to offer, and the Honolulu best hotels make the visit enormously memorable.
It’s rather easy to fall in love with the place, as so many do. That’s one of the big reasons why so many return, year after year. Getting to know the island takes repeat visits, and even for those who are from here, and know it all their lives, there’s always more. There are plenty of attractions, with fabulous restaurants and luaus, and lots of things for the kids to do as well. In fact, Honolulu has an extremely devoted population, dedicated to the community and making it a better place for everyone.
That’s part of the impetus of the Honolulu Theatre for Youth , where its outreach into the local communities serves thousands of residents and visitors every year. They’ve been around for over 50 years now, which is a marvelous track record for a theatre company, and almost unheard of for one that focuses on youth exclusively.
Like any great youth theatre , there are plenty of moments that the grown-ups will also enjoy, but the aim is at the younger crowd. Its mission combines drama with education, and uses the power of theatre to tell stories. Stories always come with points of view, so in the selections of plays, they make conscious efforts to present multiple perspectives, so that the audience can understand the world from different angles.
One-third of the company’s work is new, drawing on the vast creativity of the local dramatists, collaborations with teams of creative players, as well as working with the scripts from playwrights all over the world. It’s certainly worth seeing, if fortune offers the opportunity.
Lessons for Entrepreneurship
03 June 2010
There are a number of things you learn as a business entrepreneur that will stick with you even if you decide to end the business, leave it to someone else, sell it, or otherwise let it go.
Hard work pays off.
In the beginning of a business there was a lot of hard work. It only got harder from there. But it somehow became more rewarding as time went on as well. The work doesn’t get easier, but the pay off will. The work will be harder for some jobs over others such as Southwestern Company salesmen.
Passion is your best friend.
When you are working on something you are passionate about , something that you love doing you can’t get enough of it. Loving you work is one of very few keys to success. It is also one of the few that you can’t learn. When you are passionate about something everything else just falls into place.
There are twenty four hours in a day not matter what way you cut it.
Instead of trying to break it up and trying to manage it, work on navigating through time. Keep to a schedule , allow time in between activities and schedule more than you think you can handle. It is ok if you don’t complete all tasks as long as you don’t run late and complete all tasks that are due that day. If you don’t have a schedule that can be stuck to because you are on the road selling door to door for a company like Southwestern Company , make a set of goals. They shouldn’t be too hard, but you shouldn’t be sure you can reach them either.
Have a plan.
Things always work out better when you have a plan. You can also cut down hours of working and trial and error by simply having a plan. This will also help with other things as well, such as customer service and communications. It will also help with big things such as having to move an office building while keeping regular business services running and available.
